Attached above the shield is an arched blue scroll inscribed MIW DIVISION in Gold letters. Below the shield a tripartite scroll Or inscribed to the left DUX ET DEFENSOR SEMITAE Azure.
Blue and gold are the colors traditionally associated with the United States Navy. The trident is a symbol of MIW Division Twelves capacity to promote a secure maritime environment. The motto is borrowed from the USS Avenger, the first U.S. MCM, and translates to "GUIDE AND DEFENDER OF THE PATHWAY."
